Siemens to sell U-Systems breast US scanner

Siemens Medical Solutions has signed a deal giving the Malvern, PA, vendor worldwide rights to distribute the SomoVu breast ultrasound scanner from U-Systems of San Jose, CA.

SomoVu is an automated system that can be used as an adjunct to mammography, with a focus on women with dense breast tissue. The system was designed to produce standardized, repeatable studies in a manner similar to mammography, according to U-Systems.

Siemens is working on automated ultrasound acquisition techniques for other applications as well, the company said.
