GE adds to Katrina donations

General Electric of Fairfield, CT, has upped its total donations for Hurricane Katrina relief to over $18 million.

GE, the parent of multimodality vendor GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., has donated $8 million in cash to the American Red Cross and $10 million in equipment and services to the relief effort. The cash includes $1 million in donations from GE employees, which the company has matched.

The equipment includes medical devices, power generation equipment, water purification systems, and other goods and services. GE has appointed a vice president, Dick Pease, to coordinate the company's response to the hurricane.
