Barco completes AVIS sale to Toshiba

Image display and advanced visualization firm Barco of Kortrijk, Belgium, has completed the sale of its Advanced Visualization (AVIS) business to Tokyo-based Toshiba Medical Systems.

Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, the AVIS group specializes in 3D clinical software, which is marketed worldwide under the Voxar 3D and Voxar 3D Enterprise product names.

Toshiba's newly formed wholly owned subsidiary Toshiba Medical Visualization Systems (TMVS) Europe handled the acquisition. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Toshiba plans to keep the TMVS' headquarters in Edinburgh.

The transaction allows Toshiba to develop internally 3D volume rendering and advanced visualization capabilities for all of its imaging modalities.
