ARRS names new president

The American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) has named Dr. Gary Whitman of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston as its new president.

Whitman is the society's 122nd president, and his tenure was announced May 1 at the ARRS annual meeting being held in New Orleans. He succeeds Dr. Jonathan Kruskal, PhD, of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in New York City.

Whitman joined the MD Anderson faculty in 1996, and he currently chairs the center's faculty senate. He is a fellow of the American College of Radiology (ACR), the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI), the Society of Ultrasound in Radiology (SUR), and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). He is also a recipient of the ARRS Melvin M. Figley Fellowship in radiology journalism.

The ARRS also announced the following officers for 2022 to 2023:

  • President-elect Dr. Erik Paulson of Duke University in Durham, NC
  • Vice president Dr. Angelisa Paladin of the University of Washington in Seattle
  • Secretary/treasurer Dr. Deborah Baumgarten of the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville
