Philips, Agilent deal hits U.S. snag

Royal Philips Electronics’ pending acquisition of Agilent Technologies’ Healthcare Solutions Group of Palo Alto, CA, has hit another regulatory bump. The U.S. Department of Justice has requested additional information relating to the deal, according to the Amsterdam, Netherlands parent of Philips Medical Systems.

This request extends the waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act for 30 days after both parties comply with the request. The DOJ request follows on the European Commission’s recent request for additional information as part of its first-phase review. Both firms still expect to complete the acquisition by the middle of this year.
