Week in review: Patients and radiology reports | 'Ghost scans' on POCUS | Malpractice factors and ED imaging

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

Our most read story this week highlighted research on patients' experience reading their radiology reports, with many finding them confusing. The study authors suggested that including a lay summary and defining scoring systems could help.

Second on our list for the week was coverage of a study that highlighted the haunting problem of "ghost scans" (that is, exams that are performed but images aren't saved) on point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in the emergency department (ED). Third up was another article about the ED, this time regarding a study that explored the connection between malpractice fears and imaging use.

Our readers also showed interest in a story about how endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) improves functional outcomes and reduces mortality compared to medical management in stroke patients over 90 years old, and an article regarding the use of ablation procedures to cure hyperparathyroidism in older patients.

See below for the full list of our top stories of the week:

  6. DWI with fat correction identifies liver scarring in MASLD patients
  7. LLMs rapidly evolving in nuclear medicine
  8. Radiomics models based on pituitary MRI predict GHD
