CMS hikes MEG reimbursement

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has increased the Medicare reimbursement rate for magnetoencephalography (MEG) procedures, according to Vancouver-based MEG provider VSM MedTech.

Effective January 1, MEG scans for epilepsy localization under CPT code 95965 will be reimbursed at $5,250, up 133% compared with the 2003 rate of $2,250, VSM said. In addition, functional brain-mapping procedures (which typically require an initial scan under CPT code 95966 and one or more additional scans under CPT code 95967), have been increased in 2004 to $1,450 and $950, respectively, VSM said.
