A Hawaii breast imaging center hopes to resume operations after its accreditation was suspended in March by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to a report published by the Honolulu Star Advertiser.
After Hawaii Radiologic Associates' Hilo Women's Imaging Center failed to pass an annual evaluation, the FDA directed it to conduct a recertification process that included sending letters to 12,000 patients who received mammograms between June 2014 and August 2015. Patients were counseled to consult with their physicians about whether they needed to have their mammograms reviewed and/or retaken, the Honolulu Star said.
In the time since its services were suspended, the facility's two mammography units have been accredited again by the American College of Radiology. The center is waiting for word from the FDA that it may begin mammography screening again, according to the article.
