Italian women's imaging vendor Internazionale Medico Scientifica (IMS) is highlighting research on digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) using its Giotto device at ECR 2013.
Among the studies presented, researchers found the following:
- The use of DBT along with 2D digital mammography can reduce interreader variability (abstract B-0687).
- In terms of image quality, although digital mammography is superior to 2D central projection obtained with DBT, both techniques had a reduced incidence of artifacts (abstract B-0811).
- Breast density does not alter the diagnostic confidence of DBT compared with digital mammography reading (abstract B-0814).
- Using double-reading DBT as an adjunct to digital mammography could reduce the recall rate by 32% (abstract B-0815).
