Using digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) in combination with full-field digital mammography (FFDM) decreases recall rates during baseline screening mammography of women between the ages of 39 and 56, according to researchers at the University of Pittsburgh.In this Tuesday morning session, David Gur, ScD, and colleagues will report preliminary results from an ongoing study evaluating the impact of using DBT during baseline screening mammography.
The preliminary analysis included the first 120 participants in the study. The number of women recommended for recall due to results from FFDM alone was 61 out of 120 (50.8%), and for FFDM combined with DBT, it was 44 out of 120 (36.7%) -- representing a 28% recall rate reduction when DBT is added, according to the researchers.
