QT Imaging is touting the results of a study suggesting the efficacy of the company's QTI Breast Acoustic CT scanner in differentiating between breast tissue types and map ducts over time.
The study, published May 19 in Tomography and led by QT Imaging researchers, included data from 400 QT breast scans on 24 women, including four postmenopausal subjects, performed six to 10 times over two months. The researchers divided cases into three classes: pre-, post-, and perimenopausal. The ducts and glands were segmented using breast speed of sound, attenuation, and reflectivity images and followed over several menstrual cycles.
The researchers found that ducts do not appreciably change over the menstrual cycle in either pre- or postmenopausal women. However, glands change significantly over the cycle in premenopausal women, and 3D ultrasound tomography can differentiate ducts from glands in vivo.
The company highlighted that the results show the scanner can make way for more precise and effective treatment protocols at different stages of a woman’s life.
