3-D ultrasound developer Medison announced an upgrade to its Voluson 530D scanner at this week's American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine meeting in San Francisco. The upgrade, called Voluson 530D/MT, includes several new image enhancements, according to the Cypress, CA, company.
The upgrade offers better resolution and better color Doppler sensitivity, according to Dennis Wisher, director of education and clinical development for the company. It also includes a feature called virtual organ calculated assisted analysis (VOCAL), a 3-D rendering technique that enables users to calculate the location of a structure in space, as well as the volume of the structure. VOCAL has several applications, such as assessing the volume of a tumor prior to radiation therapy or biopsy, Wisher said.
Medison plans to begin shipping Voluson 530D/MT as soon as the AIUM show ends. Owners of older Voluson 530D systems will be offered the MT option as an upgrade.
