Mevion, RaySearch to collaborate

Mevion Medical Systems and RaySearch Laboratories plan to collaborate on proton therapy services.

The collaboration will allow the two firms to further develop adaptive therapy, proton arc therapy, and FLASH proton therapy, they said. It will focus on RaySearch's RayStation treatment planning system, furthering the use of Hyperscan PBS, and Mevion's S250-FIT proton therapy system; RaySearch's RayCare oncology information system, which will be integrated into Mevion's S250i and S250-FIT diagnostic CT platforms; of arc therapy, an emerging treatment delivery technique; and of FLASH proton therapy, which delivers high doses of radiation in short treatment time periods.

Mevion S250-FIT proton therapy system, FLASH therapy, online adaptive therapy, and arc therapy are not yet available for clinical use, according to the two firms.

In other Mevion news, the company has launched what it calls "Mevion Capital" to offer proton therapy funding options to healthcare facilities in the U.S. and Canada.
