Radiation therapy firm Varian Medical Systems has made an investment in Oncora Medical, a developer of software for the management of cancer patients.
Oncora's Patient Care software was developed with oncologists at MD Anderson Cancer Center and provides documentation, workflow, and decision support for cancer patients. The software is designed to capture critical data about cancer patients, their treatments, and their clinical outcomes so that doctors can learn from past experience and improve patient care.
Oncora has developed a predictive modeling engine that encodes knowledge into computational models that can predict the outcomes of treatments. The two firms plan to use these models to help clinicians design treatments that improve outcomes and minimize toxicity.
Another Oncora product, Oncora Analytics, is a research engine that aggregates longitudinal patient data and makes it available for scientific and medical research applications. The software is in use at 13 clinical sites in the U.S.
