Radiation oncology firm Varian Medical Systems has treated the first patient in India with its Halcyon radiation therapy system.
The milestone treatment was for a 75-year-old man at Sterling Cancer Hospital in Gujarat. The Halcyon image-guided volumetric intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) system is suited for patients with lung, prostate, breast, head and neck, and other forms of cancer.
In February 2018, Halcyon received the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) Certificate for Import and Supply in India, and in July the system received Type Approval.
