A proton therapy unit installed by Hitachi at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix is now being used to treat patients.
The Mayo Clinic began treating patients on March 14 with Hitachi's Probeat-V proton therapy system. The unit uses Hitachi's discrete spot scanning technology, with the company's smallest treatment spot size to date, Hitachi said.
The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, has an identical proton therapy system, which went into operation in June 2015.
