Radiation oncology firm Varian Medical Systems has been chosen to equip a new radiotherapy center in Glasgow.
Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Center has ordered four of Varian's TrueBeam linear accelerators, two of which will replace older treatment machines. The hospital treats more than 7,000 patients each year on 11 Varian medical linear accelerators, according to the company.
The other two accelerators will equip Beatson's new satellite department at Monklands Hospital in Airdrie, 15 miles east of Glasgow. The center expects to treat 80 patients per day at the new location, Varian said.
