AirXpanders has reported study results showing that radiation can be delivered to target tissue through its AeroForm patient-controlled breast tissue expander.
Results were published online in Practical Radiation Oncology on May 30, 2014. Dr. Janaki Moni, from University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center, and colleagues tested radiation delivery levels on a phantom model. They confirmed that it's possible for breast cancer patients to receive adequate doses of radiation therapy while undergoing patient-controlled tissue expansion as part of the breast reconstruction process, Moni said.
AeroForm is an injection-free, patient-controlled tissue expansion system, according to the company. It has the European CE Mark, is approved in Australia, and is under clinical investigation in the U.S., AirXpanders said.
