Radiosurgery and radiation therapy center operator American Shared Hospital Services (AMS) has confirmed that it will supply a Mevion S250 proton therapy system for the MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando proton therapy facility under construction.
The $25 million center is expected to open in early 2014, AMS said. It will be the first proton therapy center located in central Florida.
AMS owns approximately 1% of proton therapy developer Mevion Medical Systems. AMS is also developing proton therapy centers in Boston; Dayton, OH; and Long Beach, CA.
