Demand for its image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), stereotactic radiosurgery, brachytherapy, and filmless x-ray imaging products powered Varian Medical Systems of Palo Alto, CA, to double-digit growth in revenues, net orders, and net income in fiscal year 2006 (end-September 30).
For the fiscal year, revenues advanced 16% to $1.6 billion, compared with $1.4 billion in fiscal 2005. Net orders increased to $1.8 billion, up 18% from $1.6 billion in the last fiscal year. Net income climbed to $245.1 million, compared with $206.6 million a year ago.
Fourth-quarter revenues rose to $454 million, up 18% compared with $386.2 million in the prior year's quarter. Net orders gained 12% to $545 million, compared with $488.3 million in last fiscal year's fourth quarter. Net income totaled $82.4 million, up from $61 million in the same quarter a year ago.
The company's Oncology Systems division continues to contribute the bulk of Varian's revenues -- $1.5 billion in fiscal 2005, compared with $1.3 billion in the previous fiscal year.
