Novadaq Technologies has commenced the first human clinical trial of its Luna urology visualization system.
The Toronto-based developer of medical imaging systems for operating rooms designed and developed Luna to enable surgeons to visualize nerves, tissue perfusion, and lymph nodes during urological applications, including radical prostatectomy surgery.
The trial enrolled and imaged patients this month at the Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. The first application uses the Luna system to help surgeons evaluate and identify tumor margins in kidney tumors to aid in the removal of as much of the tumor as possible while preserving normal tissue.
