Philips is incorporating Disney animated characters and stories into its Ambient Experience for MRI platform at medical facilities in 87 countries to help children remain calm and still during scans.
The integration uses calming lighting, sound, and visual elements alongside Disney content -- including characters from Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Marvel, Star Wars, and Disney Princesses -- to reduce anxiety in pediatric patients during exams, according to the company. A multicenter study across six European hospitals found that for children ages six to 10, post-scan stress levels dropped 43% compared to pre-exam levels, and pauses during scans fell 63% compared to procedures without the intervention, Philips said.
Philips Ambient Experience for MRI is currently the exclusive MRI platform using the Disney themes, according to the firm. Early adopters include Rady Children's Health in Orange County and Calderdale Royal Hospital.
