Philips Medical Systems has introduced AcQSim MR, a new software package that uses MRI to plan radiation treatment for oncology patients, and the Panorama 0.23T R/T, a new MR system dedicated to radiation therapy planning. The MRI-based solution will enable clinicians to more accurately direct treatment to a diseased area and reduce irradiation of healthy tissue, according to the Andover, MA-based vendor
Because MRI allows clinicians to better define the boundaries of soft tissue tumors, using the modality for treatment planning will be beneficial for patients with prostate, brain, head/neck, spine, and soft tissue sarcomas of the extremities, according to the developer.
