MITA praises ACS for lung CT screening guidelines

The Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA) is lauding the American Cancer Society's (ACS) endorsement and publication of guidelines covering the use of low-dose CT screening for individuals at high risk of lung cancer.

ACS' action represents an important milestone in reducing access barriers for high-risk individuals to get lung cancer screening, MITA said. MITA also called upon the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) to re-evaluate its position on performing low-dose CT scans for lung cancer screening. In 2004, USPSTF said that data available at the time did not support lung cancer screening with any imaging method.
