Cerner creates medical informatics institute

Healthcare information systems firm Cerner has established the Cerner Medical Informatics Institute, which will focus on applied medical informatics research. The new institute, to be headed by Cerner vice president of medical informatics and chief scientist Dr. David McCallie, Jr., will develop advanced technologies in areas such as advanced decision-support using wireless and Web technologies. The institute will also focus on developing the next generation of knowledge-driven clinical tools to enable safer and better patient care, according to the Kansas City-based firm.
