The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) has named Wendy Weaver of Benson, NC, as the winner of its 2026 individual Award for Advocacy, and the Louisiana Society of Radiologic Technologists (LSRT) as the affiliate winner.
The award recognizes achievements in advocacy efforts and grass-roots involvement. Weaver, a radiography instructor at Johnston Community College in Smithfield, NC, was instrumental in developing legislation to ensure that educationally prepared individuals perform medical imaging and radiation therapy procedures, resulting in companion bills introduced in the North Carolina legislature in March 2025. House Bill 590 passed all committees and the full House unanimously, according to the ASRT.
The LSRT was recognized for its work opposing a rule change that would have allowed remote physician supervision of private radiologic technologists, and for successfully blocking two proposals that would have altered how regulatory boards function in Louisiana. The society also worked with the Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners to advance licensure for radiologist assistants, the ASRT said.
