ACR updates appropriateness criteria

The American College of Radiology (ACR) has released four new topics and 12 updated topics in its appropriateness criteria document.

New topics include the following:

  • Antenatal hydronephrosis -- infant
  • Imaging after mastectomy and breast reconstruction
  • Nuchal translucency evaluation at 11 to 14 weeks gestational age
  • Postpartum hemorrhage

Updated topics consist of the following:

  • Abnormal uterine bleeding
  • Acute nonspecific chest pain -- low probability of coronary artery disease
  • Acute trauma to the ankle
  • Blunt chest trauma -- suspected cardiac injury
  • Chronic foot pain
  • Indeterminate renal mass
  • Liver lesion -- initial characterization
  • Pretreatment evaluation and follow-up of endometrial cancer
  • Recurrent lower urinary tract infections in women
  • Second and third trimester vaginal bleeding
  • Seizures -- child
  • Vomiting in infants

The ACR Appropriateness Criteria was first introduced in 1993, the college said.
