MRI-guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsy has been deemed safe, fast, and accurate for evaluating MRI-detected lesions, but the procedure may fail to completely characterize the target lesion, even when a 9-gauge device is used, according to a group from Memorial-Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), who assessed the underestimation rate of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) with MR biopsy.

Computer-assisted MR guidance improves prostate biopsy

An automated prostate biopsy system based on real-time guidance with high-field MRI earned high scores for accuracy and image quality, according to German researchers. They found that using a transgluteal needle approach to the prostate with the patient prone was accurate and safe when used in combination with the pneumatically driven needle positioning system.
