Compact-ultrasound developer SonoSite has introduced M-Turbo, a hand-carried ultrasound scanner designed for point-of-care applications.
M-Turbo is SonoSite's fourth major product platform since its initial hand-carried ultrasound system in 1999. The system features increases in raw processing power, connectivity for digital image export, and a weight of less than 8 lb, according to the Bothell, WA-based firm.
The scanner features a 16-fold increase in processing power over the vendor's MicroMaxx system, and includes the firm's SonoAdapt tissue optimization feature, SonoHD imaging technology, and SonoMB multibeam imaging functionality.
SonoSite has also incorporated a new phased-array transducer (P21x/5-1) and a new curved-array transducer (ICTx/8-5). A total of seven transducers will be available with the system to handle a full range of clinical and procedural guidance applications for abdominal, nerve, vascular, cardiac, venous access, small parts, and superficial imaging applications, SonoSite said.
M-Turbo shipments are expected to begin later this quarter.
