Philips, ImaRx ink research deal

Philips Medical Systems of Andover, MA, and biopharmaceutical firm ImaRx Therapeutics have formed a research collaboration.

Under the terms of the deal, Philips' ultrasound technology will be evaluated as part of ImaRx's SonoLysis acute ischemic stroke treatment development program. Philips will provide ultrasound devices and technical assistance to Tucson, AZ-based ImaRx during laboratory and preclinical studies, with the objective of determining the optimal ultrasound parameters to use with ImaRx's MRX-801 microbubble technology.

The agreement includes a mutual exclusivity clause during the term of the collaboration. After completion of the program, both companies will have an exclusive negotiation period to discuss future development and commercialization, according to Philips and ImaRx.
