FDA clears Hologic mammo software

Women's imaging vendor Hologic has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for its R2 DigitalNow HD software, designed to process digitized film-screen mammograms for comparison.

The software adapts each digitized film image to a selected contrast and tissue intensity that models a digital mammography system, according to the Bedford, MA-based vendor. It also embeds a series of lookup tables in the image that allow Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) mammography-conformant workstations to draw out less evident regions of density within digitized films, Hologic said.
