Study: Medicsight ColonCAD good for colorectal cancer detection

Preliminary results from an ongoing study from University College Hospital in London shows that ColonCAD from computer-aided detection (CAD) developer Medicsight is effective in detecting colorectal cancer through CT colonography in symptomatic patients.

The results were presented at the 2007 meeting of the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) in Vienna.

The study investigated 59 patients with proven cancers established by colonoscopy and histology. The patients were examined with Medicsight's ColonCAD to analyze paired prone and supine datasets over a range of four user-adjustable CAD filter settings.

Across the settings, ColonCAD detected 47 to 54 of the 59 cancers, representing a sensitivity range of 88.7% to 91.5%, according to London-based Medicsight..
