Philips buys surgical firm Traxtal

Philips Healthcare has purchased surgical navigation technology provider Traxtal of Toronto.

The acquisition aims to strengthen Philips' position in minimally invasive therapy, according to the Andover, MA-based vendor. The companies have partnered since 2006 to provide integrated soft-tissue therapeutic and diagnostic navigation technology.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Traxtal, which was founded in 1996 and currently has 45 employees, will become part of Philips' ultrasound business.
