MDS names Anderson as chairman

MDS, parent company of MDS Nordion of Ottawa, continued its restructuring with the appointment of William Anderson as the company's new chairman.

Anderson will replace James MacDonald, who will continue to hold positions on the board, its audit committee, and its special committee.

Anderson most recently served at Bell Canada Enterprises (BCE), based in Verdun, Quebec. He retired from BCE in 2005 after serving as chief financial officer from 1997 to 2000 and as president of BCE Ventures from 2001 to 2004.

Part of MDS' remake includes moving its corporate headquarters from Toronto to Ottawa to save money. As it restructures, MDS plans to keep its MDS Nordion medical isotope business and on February 1 announced the completion of a deal to sell its Analytical Technologies business for $650 million to Danaher of Washington, DC.
