ACRIN seeks research sites for clinical trial

The American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) has put out a call seeking sites to participate in a multicenter trial of the use of FDG-PET/CT for the staging of head and neck cancer.

The study, known as ACRIN 6685, is being led by Dr. Val Lowe, professor of radiology in the division of nuclear medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

The goals of the trial are twofold: to determine the predictive value of PET/CT for staging the clinically defined negative neck (N0 neck) based upon pathological sampling of the neck lymph nodes, and to determine the potential of PET/CT to change treatment of the N0 neck patient.

The trial is set to begin in January 2010 with an overall accrual of 292 study participants, and it is expected to take two years.

Interested investigators are being encouraged to act quickly to complete the activation requirements. A complete protocol is available at [email protected] or by phone at 215-574-3169.
