GE Healthcare posts slow Q2

A decline in U.S. hospital sales resulted in lower revenue and net profit for GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., in the second quarter (end-June 30).

Revenue declined 12% to $3.96 billion in the second quarter, compared with $4.49 billion in the second quarter of 2008. Profits also took a hit, decreasing to $590 million, compared with $747 million in the same quarter a year ago.

Second-quarter equipment orders also fell on hard times due to the lackluster economy, decreasing to $2.5 billion, down 15% from the second quarter of 2008.

For the six-month period, revenue declined to $7.5 billion, compared with $8.37 billion in the same months of 2008. Profit totaled $1 billion, compared with $1.27 billion in the same period a year ago.
