GE to acquire Biacore

In a bid to expand its presence into the life sciences research market, GE Healthcare reported that it will initiate a tender offer for protein interaction analysis systems developer Biacore International.

The Uppsala, Sweden-based Biacore's products are used in areas such as antibody characterization, proteomics, lead characterization, immunogenicity, biotherapeutic development, and production.

GE said it will offer 330 Swedish kronor ($45 U.S.) per share in cash, for a total of approximately 2.9 billion kronor ($390 million), for Biacore. The offer is expected to commence on July 10 this year, according to GE of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K.
