Artificial intelligence (AI) may again be the darling of this year's RSNA meeting, but there's more to imaging informatics than AI, of course. Our final stop on this year's Road to RSNA preview takes a look at what to expect in enterprise imaging, clinical decision support (CDS), 3D printing, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), business analytics, patient portals, and other informatics topics.

With just over a year until CDS is required for ordering advanced imaging studies for Medicare patients, RSNA 2020 offers a great opportunity for attendees to assess their options, if they haven't done so already. In business analytics, look for presentations that describe the effects of COVID-19 on radiology practices, as well as the benefits realized from operational adjustments made in response to the pandemic.

Interest in applying AR/VR in imaging applications is picking up, but that doesn't mean 3D printing is being left behind. Both 3D printing and AR/VR are generating substantial research activity.

Image sharing and the prospects for image-enabling patient portals remain important issues to monitor. In enterprise imaging, there's an increasing focus on the workflow needed to support images being generated outside of radiology, with a particular emphasis on point-of-care ultrasound.

Implementing an enterprise imaging initiative will certainly be different in the midst of a global pandemic. With the right preparation, however, prospective purchasers will be able to maximize their time at RSNA 2020 and make sound decisions. Check out our 15 tips below on how to shop for an enterprise imaging system this year.
