(Booth 4525) Calgary Scientific will highlight its ResolutionMD family of advanced visualization products, which range from cardiac analysis software to virtual colonoscopy applications.

ResolutionMD supports 3D color and maximum intensity projection (MIP) views, and includes a 3D Lens Tool that allows viewing through obstructing structures without lengthy segmentation, the company said. The software also includes an edge enhancement feature for detecting subtle pathology.

2007 11 05 15 39 32 706ResolutionMD includes features like 3D volume rendering conducted through onboard video memory, which speeds up image access and exploration. The software runs on both Windows and Macintosh operating systems, and has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Shipments will begin in Europe and Asia in 2008.

ResolutionMD Advanced Visualization Toolkit (AVT) is an environment for rapid development of software applications. It supports the rapid integration of desktop-based AV tools with PACS, RIS, HIS, or other types of medical software. The product has 510(k) clearance for the Bundle SDK (software development kit); products developed with the Embed SDK may require submission for additional certification, according to the company.

ResolutionMD AVT Enterprise is a version of the AVT software that is still under development and will be shown as a work-in-progress. Relevant clinical applications include general image review, calcium scoring, coronary artery analysis, virtual colonoscopy, and brain perfusion mapping.

In cardiac visualization, ResolutionMD Cardiac: Calcium Scoring offers quantification of calcium deposits and automated scoring, and provides reporting and output to PACS. The software has received 510(k) clearance and is available in North American, with European and Asian shipments expected in 2008.

ResolutionMD Cardiac: Coronary Artery Analysis offers automated centerline detection and quantification of stenosis, and like Calcium Scoring supports reporting and PACS output. The software will be available in the U.S., Europe, and Asia in 2008.

ResolutionMD Oncology: Virtual Colonoscopy applies the company's visualization techniques to CT colonography. Features include automatic polyp detection, automatic fecal matter removal, and flexible reporting, and, like other Calgary Scientific applications, 3D image tasks are conducted through the computer's onboard memory. The software has not yet received FDA clearance and will be shown as a work-in-progress.

ResolutionMD Neuro: Brain Mapping is designed for neurological imaging applications, and includes real-time interactive computation of brain blood perfusion maps; instant display of cerebral blood volume and cerebral blood flow; and the creation of mean transit time maps. It also generates multiple arterial input functions (AIFs) to ensure correct anatomical selection. FDA clearance is in progress and the software is expected to be available in 2008.
