Clinical:

Superior intercostal vein and the accessory hemiazygous vein unite to form a venous arch which courses about the aortic arch to empty into the left brachiocephalic vein, this venous arch is what forms the aortic nipple. It may act as a collateral pathway in patients with SVC syndrome and become enlarged.
