Atypical PCP with air space consolidation
The patient with PCP pneumonia shown in the case below had a CD 4 count of less than 50. The CXR demonstrates a dense area of air space consolidation in the left upper lung (click here to view lateral image). Other patchy areas of air space consolidation are also noted within the left lower lobe. Focal air space consolidation is an atypical presentation for PCP.
