Top 5 trends from RSNA 2018 in Chicago
December 13, 2018 -- Stop us if you've heard this before, but there was a dominant theme at this year's RSNA 2018 meeting in Chicago. And that theme, believe it or not, was artificial intelligence (AI). As at RSNA 2017, sessions on AI and the related topics of machine learning and deep learning dominated the halls of McCormick Place. However, the debate around AI has begun to shift in subtle ways.  Discuss

AI algorithm detects all intracranial hemorrhage types
December 6, 2018 -- An artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm can detect all types of intracranial hemorrhage on noncontrast head CT studies, showing potential for use in all clinical scenarios that involve detecting and tracking this critical condition, according to research presented at the recent RSNA 2018 meeting in Chicago.  Discuss
Beyond the black box? AI algorithm explains decisions
December 5, 2018 -- Yale University researchers have developed an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm for classifying liver lesions on MRI scans that explains the reason for its decisions. The algorithm could address concerns about the "black box" nature of AI, according to research presented at last week's RSNA 2018 meeting.  Discuss
Can black bone MRI match CT for pediatric head trauma?
December 3, 2018 -- Black bone MRI may be a viable, radiation-free alternative to CT for the evaluation of children presenting with abusive head trauma -- particularly for detecting skull fractures, according to a Friday presentation at RSNA 2018 in Chicago.  Discuss
AR, 3D printing make headway in patient education
November 30, 2018 -- CHICAGO - Researchers from New York have created hundreds of individually tailored kidney and prostate cancer models using 3D printing and augmented reality (AR) technologies. The 3D models have helped improve patients' understanding of their disease and treatment, according to a presentation at RSNA 2018.  Discuss
RSNA 2018 Scientific & Educational Presentations
November 8, 2018 -- Our final destination on the Road to RSNA is imaging informatics, and specifically PACS, cybersecurity, structured reporting, clinical decision support, radiation dose-monitoring software, analytics, and issues regarding patient access to radiology results.
November 7, 2018 -- Key presentations at RSNA 2018 will discuss how artificial intelligence is helping clinicians in a variety of uses for digital x-ray, from improving dose calculations and analyzing suspicious lung nodules to hastening imaging exams and the care of patients in emergency rooms.
November 6, 2018 -- The integration of advanced visualization tools into healthcare has grown exponentially in recent years. At RSNA 2018, researchers will describe the various clinical applications of tools such as virtual and augmented reality, 3D printing, and cinematic rendering in dozens of workshops, presentations, and refresher courses.
November 5, 2018 -- RSNA 2018 will highlight the new ways ultrasound is changing clinical practice. Hot topics at year's RSNA meeting include the use of contrast-enhanced ultrasound and MR-guided focused ultrasound to diagnose different diseases, as well as the application of artificial intelligence in ultrasound imaging.
November 1, 2018 -- The scientific presentations focusing on CT at this year's RSNA conference speak to the modality's impressive resilience and continued development. Artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, computer-aided detection (CAD), and updated protocols that are helping to reduce radiation dose, as well as the results from early studies of ultrahigh-resolution CT scanners, will be key topics discussed at the meeting.
