Panasonic has introduced CardioHealth Station, a device that features a built-in portable ultrasound system for noninvasive examination of the carotid arteries.
Debuted at this week's American Heart Association (AHA) meeting in Chicago, CardioHealth Station provides an automated real-time measurement of intima-media thickness (IMT) and allows users to search for arterial plaques, according to the Secaucus, NJ-based firm.
It also includes a touchscreen keyboard for users to input various parameters relating to traditional cardiovascular risk factors. A built-in calculator then provides commonly used risk scores; this information is supplemented with an IMT measurement of the artery to generate a comprehensive report, Panasonic said.
Panasonic expects to launch the system in North America following U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance.
