ASTRO elects new board president-elect

American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) has elected Dr. Thomas Eichler of Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute in Richmond, VA, as the new president-elect of its board of directors.

Eichler is currently staff physician at Sarah Cannon and previously served there as the medical director of radiation oncology. He is a former chief of the ASTRO Health Policy Council and now chairs its political action committee. He will serve a one-year term as president-elect, then consecutive single-year terms as president and then chair of the board of directors.

The organization also elected the following radiation oncologists to other board positions:

  • Clinical affairs and quality council vice-chair: Dr. Benjamin Smith of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston
  • Education council vice chair: Dr. Benjamin Movsas of Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit
  • Government relations council vice-chair: Dr. Howard Sandler of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles

All of the newly elected officers will begin their service during ASTRO's annual meeting in San Antonio in October, the organization said.
