The Reston, VA-based American College of Radiology (ACR) has created ACR Image Metrix, a new contract research organization (CRO) intended to coordinate large-scale clinical research, accelerate advances in radiologic care, and fund future research to benefit patients.
ACR Image Metrix will offer CRO services such as electronic data forms design, image archiving, image interpretation, and quantitation. The business is headquartered in ACR's Philadelphia office, alongside the ACR's clinical research division.
The ACR and the American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ACRIN) in the past have developed trials to standardize the use of imaging technologies, image transmission and archiving, and quantification of image data to reduce the variability associated with research activities, reduce the size and cost of trials, and produce more reliable results.
Revenue from ACR Image Metrix's research projects will help fund future ACRIN, Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), and Quality Research in Radiation Oncology (Q-RRO) studies.
