Lorad to distribute Gamma Medica scintigraphy camera

Gamma camera developer Gamma Medica Instruments of Northridge, CA, has inked a tentative agreement with Hologic subsidiary Lorad of Danbury, CT, covering sales of Gamma Medica's LumaGem dedicated scintimammography camera.

Under terms of the deal, Lorad would have exclusive rights to distribute LumaGem with Lorad's Multicare stereotactic breast biopsy system. The companies believe that LumaGem can help Multicare users localize breast lesions that might not be visible with conventional mammography.

Lorad will also have exclusive rights to distribute LumaGem for use with Lorad's upright mammography systems. Using the systems together would enable optimal positioning of the camera for mammoscintigraphy, as well as the use of breast compression during the technique. Lorad will also have nonexclusive rights to distribute other Gamma Medica products.

In other Gamma Medica news, the company at last week's RSNA meeting debuted A-SPECT, a new SPECT camera for in vivo small-animal imaging. The company believes that A-SPECT could replace other methods for imaging animals involved in research studies, some of which require that the animals be sacrificed.
