Konica Minolta launches Exa Gateway for remote reading

September 11, 2020 -- Konica Minolta Healthcare Americas is launching a new remote reading platform called Exa Gateway to help connect hospital radiology departments, radiology groups, and teleradiology providers.

Exa Gateway is designed to enable users to leverage their initial investment in PACS networks and use their current worklist and viewer, according to the company. The software enables radiologists to read medical images remotely from existing workstations or from devices like tablets and smartphones.

The platform enables hospitals to easily add or start teleradiology services to give them extra flexibility to manage fluctuating image volumes, while radiology practices can use Exa Gateway to start remote reading with access to teleradiologists to handle an overflow of imaging exams or to provide overreads and subspecialty interpretations.

Exa Gateway can be set up for both existing customers of the company's Exa enterprise image management software and for sites not using the software. It is also useful for teleradiologists, as Konica Minolta offers services to set up connection points from a hospital or radiology practice through Exa Gateway and to the teleradiologist's PACS with a single connection path.

Because Exa Gateway is part of the company's Exa platform, users can employ the software's zero-footprint viewer, which includes full diagnostic toolsets and viewing capabilities with only a web browser, according to the company. The gateway uses server-side rendering to enable large imaging studies like 3D mammography exams to be opened quickly.
