February 21, 2020 -- Artificial intelligence (AI) software developer Yitu Healthcare has developed AI software to help analyze chest CT scans for patients with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Intelligent Evaluation System of Chest CT uses algorithms to quantitatively analyze key imaging features from CT scans to detect and assess COVID-19, according to the vendor. The software grades the severity of pneumonia diseases using lesion morphology, range, and density. It can also quantify the cumulative pneumonia load of the disease, the company said.

The system can automatically detect the lesion area and perform its analysis in 2 to 3 seconds, Yitu Healthcare said. Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center shared its experience with using the software in an article posted on its official WeChat platform on February 4.
