GE to expand command center software across Ore.

October 13, 2021 -- The state of Oregon is expanding its use of command center software by GE Healthcare across the state to help facilities manage patient capacity and resources.

Apprise Health Insights will expand its existing installation of Oregon Capacity System software, which is based on the GE technology, to cover additional healthcare resources across the state by the summer of 2022. The rollout is being supported by a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and is believed to be the first automated statewide command center for resource management.

Apprise and GE have been working together on Oregon Capacity System as a pilot project since March 2020 with 60 participating hospitals. At present, the platform tracks 7,368 beds and approximately 800 ventilators across 60 hospitals in Oregon, while processing 4.2 million data points, according to GE.

As in other states, the COVID-19 pandemic has put a strain on hospitals in Oregon, but the command center software enables health authorities to know exactly how many hospital beds are available. By replacing manual tracking of healthcare resources, Apprise and GE estimate that the software has saved 45,000 hours of labor and $3 million in costs since its deployment.

The federal grant will be used to deploy the command center more broadly across Oregon to encompass all hospitals. The system currently tracks only beds and ventilators; the expansion will enable it to follow more than 5 million data points per day, including resources and bed availability in acute, pediatric, intensive care unit, specialty, rehabilitation, and psychiatric facilities, as well as availability of personal protective equipment and emergency department and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation resources.
