iCAD features Xoft Axxent upgrades at ASTRO 2019

September 17, 2019 -- Computer-aided detection (CAD) software developer iCAD is showcasing the latest updates for its Xoft Axxent electronic brachytherapy machine at this week's American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) meeting in Chicago.

The Xoft Axxent enhancements include the following:

  • X-ray sources with an extended product life span and more efficient treatment times
  • The full suite of existing electronic brachytherapy applicators, new applicators for minimally invasive robotic surgery for prostate and early-stage rectal cancer, and extended-length balloon applicators (25 mm and 50 mm)
  • Treatment planning programs

In other ASTRO 2019 developments, researchers from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine presented a study affirming the benefits of using Xoft Axxent for early-stage breast cancer treatment during a Sunday session, iCAD said.
